How Much Does a Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Permit Cost?

The standard Rwanda gorilla trekking permit costs US$1,500 per person per trek for an international visitor. The permit allows you to take part in Mountain Gorilla Trekking Rwanda inside Volcanoes National Park and spend a regulated hour observing a habituated mountain gorilla family once your group reaches the gorillas. Permit availability is limited for each trekking date, making advance planning particularly important during popular travel periods.

Your Entry to Rwanda’s Mountain Gorillas

Rwanda gorilla trekking takes place in Volcanoes National Park in the country’s northwest. A permit is issued for a specific trekking date and gives the permit holder access to the organised gorilla tracking experience for that day. Travellers should therefore secure their permits before finalising non-refundable accommodation and other safari arrangements.

15+ Minimum Trekking Age

Gorilla tracking in Rwanda is available to visitors aged 15 years and above.

1 Hour Gorilla Viewing Time

Once your group reaches its allocated gorilla family, viewing time is limited to one hour.

8 Visitors Per Group

A maximum of eight visitors are permitted in a standard gorilla trekking group.

1 Day Permit Validity

Your gorilla permit is associated with your confirmed trekking date and should be planned carefully.

Is the Gorilla Permit the Complete Safari Price?

No. The Rwanda gorilla permit price should be separated from the total cost of your safari. Accommodation, private transport, airport transfers, meals, additional activities and other travel arrangements are normally priced separately unless you book an all-inclusive gorilla trekking safari. We can combine the permit with these services to create one complete Rwanda safari package.

When Should You Book Your Permit?

We recommend checking permit availability as early as possible once you know your intended travel dates. This is particularly important for travellers planning Mountain Gorilla Trekking Rwanda during popular holiday periods or combining gorilla trekking with chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park, Akagera wildlife safaris or a longer tailor-made Rwanda itinerary.
